Japanese / Shikkui Plaster
Shikkui Plaster is a traditional Japanese hydrated lime plaster. It has been widely used throughout Japan for both internal and external walls of houses, temples and castles, as well as for ceilings and decorative purposes for over one thousand years. Shikkui combines the reliability of a time-tested material with cutting edge engineering to deliver a surface coating system unmatched in beauty, versatility, durability, and health.
Shikkui coatings are zero-VOC, non-toxic, and can include up to 50% reprocessed eggshells – a rapidly renewable, pre-consumer source of high-grade calcium carbonate. The coatings are highly porous and naturally antiseptic, so indoor air quality is actively improved for healthier spaces.
All Shikkui products are Cradle to Cradle Certified (Silver) for a higher standard of healthy and environmentally-responsible design. Shikkui by Tagawa Sangyo is the only plaster system to be C2C certified by MBDC.
